Dr. Vijay Prakash is one of the most respected and experienced Gastroenterologists in Bihar, with over 34 years of clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of digestive, liver, pancreatic, and gastrointestinal diseases. He currently serves as the Director and Consultant Gastroenterologist at BIG Apollo Spectra Hospital, Patna.
An outstanding academician, Dr. Vijay Prakash, topped the I.Sc. Examination conducted by Ranchi University in 1971. He completed his MBBS from Patna Medical College (PMC) in 1978, graduating as the Best Graduate of his batch. He later earned his MD in Medicine from PGIMER, Chandigarh, in 1983, where he was awarded a Silver Medal for securing the highest position in his subject.
Dr. Vijay Prakash has played a pioneering role in advancing gastroenterology services in Bihar. He established the Department of Gastroenterology at Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna, and later at Patna Medical College & Hospital (PMCH). He served as Professor & Head, Department of Medicine at PMCH (2004–2008) before becoming the Professor & Head of the Department of Gastroenterology.
A passionate teacher, researcher, and mentor, Dr. Vijay Prakash has organized and participated in numerous national and international medical conferences. He has authored and guided several research publications and has held prestigious positions in various national medical and academic organizations.
In 2009, Dr. Vijay Prakash founded BIG Hospital, Patna, with the vision of providing comprehensive and affordable gastroenterology care to the people of Bihar. Under his leadership, the hospital has grown into a leading multi-specialty healthcare institution with the addition of several super-specialty departments, while continuing its commitment to accessible, patient-centric, and high-quality medical care.
